Everyone knows that Hawaii is one of the world’s most popular dream
destinations. It has amazing panoramic views of beaches, mountains, and the ocean. This is all great but if
you don’t have a means of transportation your visit to Hawaii won’t be as spectacular as you had dreamed.
Let’s look at some tips for getting around on the islands.
1. Taxi Services - If you are getting to Hawaii by airplane you won’t
have a problem locating a taxi. At the airport taxis roam around like sheep on the hills of New Zealand. Not
only that, there are designated areas for getting taxi service. You should know that it will cost between
$2.25US - $2.75US to get in the taxi and about $2.35US per mile after that. If you happen to be in Waikiki
then a taxi from the airport to your hotel shouldn’t cost more than $40US.
2. Rent A Car - As with most popular airports you can get a rental car
right at the airport. There are a wide range of rental companies and most likely one you are familiar with.
Depending on extra fees and insurance, you might only pay $25US-$35US per day or between $120US-$200US per
week. A lot of prices depend on the time of year. Naturally, when the demand is higher they will raise the
price.
3. Trolley or Cable Car - In Waikiki they have a trolley system that is
comparable to most cable cars in California. They are great to get around to most places, but some of the
more special places will be difficult to get to using only the trolley system. Day passes for the trolley can
be bought for $30US for adults and lower for seniors and children. The best way to cut that price is to look
for online coupons or other discounts.
Sometimes you can save a few days worth of trolley passes just by doing
this.
4. Hawaii Helicopter - You can take a tour in a Hawaii Helicopter to see
the beautiful islands. It certainly is breath taking and the price can be too. However, this may be one of
the most exciting things you do. We went on a helicopter tour and it cost just under $400 for the two of
us.
No matter which form of transportation you choose, there will be
advantages and disadvantages to both. If you’re really stuck on what to do, you shouldn’t have a problem
asking one of the locals. The local people in Hawaii are for the most part, friendly and very helpful. They
are use to all kinds of tourists and are proud of their island.
Have a great trip!
